In a recent media event held in New Zealand, acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron shared insights about the ongoing development of the third installment in the Avatar series.

He described the post-production phase as particularly intense and time-consuming.

Speaking to John Campbell, the lead reporter for 1News, Cameron remarked, “We are currently immersed in an intensive two-year post-production phase.” He further unveiled the planned release date for the movie, stating, “The target is Christmas 2025.” This announcement comes after Disney’s earlier declaration in June, which indicated a delay in releasing the subsequent three Avatar sequels, extending the timeline to 2031. Although the original plan was to launch each new Avatar movie at two-year intervals, with the third installment expected in 2024, the revised schedule now sets the premiere of Avatar 3 for December 19, 2025, followed by Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. This means the final film will debut 22 years following the original Avatar.

Cameron also hinted at introducing a new, more hostile Na’vi tribe in Avatar 3. He reaffirmed his commitment to filming all upcoming sequels in New Zealand, expressing his intention to continue making movies there indefinitely. He disclosed his plans to become a New Zealand citizen by 2024.
