Jack Black has big plans for 2019. Black revealed this week his plans on joining YouTube and becoming bigger than Ninja and PewDiePie.

The actor announced his arrival to YouTube this week. His channel Jablinski Games, will “have games, food, and life,” according to a description underneath the video. While Black is the center of the video, according to The Verge, it’s his son who’s taking on the role as director and editor.

“I just want to clarify that there is no production behind this,” Black wrote. “This is all my son. He’s holding me hostage and I can’t be Tracer. Help…”

The current plan is to upload a new video every week, according to Black’s introduction video, which seems like it will be edited and produced by his son.

Jack Black is not the first celebrity to turn to YouTube. Will Smith, Victoria Beckham and Reese Witherspoon all have successful YouTube channels that are separate from their Hollywood careers.

That said, many early-adopters of YouTube are not too happy to see A-list celebrities joining the platform. As The Verge points out, some believe this paradigm shift in YouTube entertainment is a sign of “digital gentrification.”

“YouTube can’t promise brand safety with volatile creators on the platform — advertisers don’t want to be caught in a firestorm. The only move is to pivot, and YouTube is ready. Hollywood names like Will Smith and Demi Lovato are safe bets. Same with music videos already vetted by major record labels. Clips from late night shows are another safe bet.

That’s the utopian version of YouTube the company wants to sell to advertisers.”

But seeking positive feedback, it appears as though people are willing to give Black a chance.

If Jack Black is committed to posting videos on YouTube, his first official video will be uploaded on December 28th. His channel had over 1.4 million subscribers at the time of writing this article.
