Idris Elba Says He Wouldn’t Play James Bond. It’s “Not a Goal for My Career”

After Daniel Craig announced that his fifteen-year tenure as the title character in James Bond would conclude, one of the most polarizing issues in entertainment erupted. Many fans have been speculating who would take on the mantle of the following British agent after Daniel Craig, with many anticipating Idris Elba might play the part.

Elba, however, has now expressed a different view in an interview with Uninterrupted’s The Shop. He said that while he had desired to play James Bond since “the day I went on the internet,” he ultimately decided not to pursue the role because it was simply “not a goal for my career.”, He added: “I don’t think that you know, playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals. It will definitely satisfy the will of a nation.” He expanded on his comments and added why he was not compelled to participate.

“I’m not gonna lie, every corner of the world I go, and I’m talking about different cultures, they always go, ‘Bond.’ And I feel it is beyond me at this junction. It’s beyond me.

You know, it’s not a question of, should I, do I, will I? It is what the will of the nation dictates sometimes. I’m not that guy, but in everyone’s world, I might be. And that, job is done. Because the truth is, you know, a lot of people are really seeing Idris playing Bond as the alternative Bond. And as long as that alternative is existing, that’s great for the growth of f**king casting.”
