Here’s how much reality TV workers get paid.

Reality TV is everywhere. Nearly every major network has some form of reality TV shows. This is mostly due to how cheap it is to produce a reality show. For example, writers, grips, PAs, and anyone else on the show are all non-union workers. But, thanks to recent union campaigns, well-documented horrendous working conditions, a new light is being honed on the dark side of reality TV.

A survey of more than 500 U.S. reality TV workers, was just released by a TV production consulting firm called Brits in the Box. The survey gives a detailed look at working pay and working conditions at all levels of the industry, which unlikely regular TV, is not unionized.

A little over half of the survey’s participants working for production companies, the rest mostly working for networks and post-production companies. While the numbers are not below the poverty line, they are way less than what union workers make on a daily basis.

Here are some of the finding about the pay for reality TV workers.

As you can see in the survey above, background extras get paid $0 and work for free. For the full story and survey check out Brits in the Box
