Gov. Nathan Deal announced today that Georgia’s film industry has generated over $6 billion in 2015 after 248 movies and TV shows were shot in Georgia.

“As evidenced by today’s announcement, Georgia’s film industry has had a significant impact on our state,” said Deal. “These statistics represent job creation, increased business opportunities and the revitalization of communities statewide, and I am committed to building a strong film-ready workforce in Georgia to ensure that the industry continues to flourish here.”

Gov. Nathan Deal has been actively working on creating not only a growing film industry but providing the framework and foundation for an industry that will last a long time. For instance, Gov. Nathan Deal created the Georgia Film Academy earlier this year. The new Academy will unite the University System of Georgia, the Technical College System of Georgia and members in the film industry providing college students and production companies jobs, opportunities, and an educated workforce.

“Georgia is one of the fastest-growing entertainment production centers in the world with 42 productions currently filming across the state,” said Chris Carr, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. “More than 100 new businesses have relocated or expanded in Georgia to support the industry – creating jobs for Georgians as well as economic opportunities for our communities and small businesses – ensuring Georgia’s place in the industry well into the future.”

One major movie that made a huge impact in Georgia is Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’, according to reports, ‘Ant-Man’ hired nearly 4,000 Georgians, and spent more than $106 million in Georgia. Since then Marvel has unofficially called Georgia home. Currently, Marvel’s ‘Captain America 3’ is filming outside of Atlanta and reports of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ will film in the ATL.
