George R.R. Martin Shows Support for Writers’ Strike

The ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has entered its fourth week, as dedicated screenwriters take to the streets demanding equitable pay, improved working conditions, regulations on AI usage, and other crucial reforms. Renowned author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, George R.R. Martin, stands firmly in solidarity with the writers, emphasizing the significance of their battle. With his extensive experience in Hollywood as a writer and professional, Martin comprehends their challenges.

Although Martin had not previously appeared on the picket line, that changed last week when he joined other writers to halt production on several projects in his home state of New Mexico.

George R.R. Martin expressed his stance, saying, “Never, never ever cross a picket line.” The strike has already resulted in the shutdown or postponement of numerous productions. The consequences may still need to be apparent, but the absence of scripted series in the coming months will undoubtedly be attributed to this labor dispute.

Despite the writers’ persistent efforts, Martin revealed that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) has yet to return to the negotiating table. “We must intensify our endeavors,” he stated on his blog, Not a Blog. “The issues at stake here are far too important to settle for anything less.”

We encourage your support. If you stand with us, show your solidarity by honking when you spot our picket signs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or any other location. And remember, never, never cross a picket line.

“House of the Dragon” is filming its second season. All scripts for the upcoming season were completed before the strike, allowing HBO to proceed. The absence of input from the writers may impact the show’s outcome—more details to come next year.
