Fox Delays ‘Luther’ Remake

Fox delays the release of the ‘Luther’ remake.

According to reports, casting directors are having a hard time trying to find the best actor to lead in the series.

Given the overwhelming demand for leads — sources tell THR that Fox was out briefly to Marlon Wayans to star — the network will wait until the crush of pilot season is over before resuming its search for a leading man. Diverse leads have been in particularly high demand this pilot season as the broadcast networks look to build upon the success of hits including Empire and How to Get Away With Murder.

Fox originally picked up the drama, which is based on the BBC’s Emmy nominated series, featuring Idris Elba and creator Neil Cross. Neil Cross is writing and executive producing Fox’s Luther remake. Idris Elba is also attached as an executive producer on the series. However, with Fox pulling the plug on the TV pilot until producers and casting directors can find a leading man, it may be a long time before the ‘Luther’ remake ever hits TV screens.
