Kurt Russell starred as the one-eyed Snake Plissken. The film is set in a then near-future 1997 in a crime-ridden United States that has convertedManhattan Island in New York City into a maximum security prison. Ex-soldier Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) is given 22 hours to find the President of the United States (Donald Pleasence), who has been captured by prisoners after the crash of Air Force One.

‘Escape From New York‘ has a rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critical consensus “Featuring an atmospherically grimy futuristic metropolis, Escape from New York is a strange, entertaining jumble of thrilling action and oddball weirdness.”

‘Escape from New York’ became a cult classic and made $25 million in the box office. Kurt Rusell returned as Snake Plissken in Carpenter’s 1996 sequel, “Escape from L.A.” which was the same movie but a different location. The sequel bombed in the box office.
