Dwayne Johnson and Universal Pictures are developing a Bourne author movie universe
Universal Pictures is teaming up with screenwriter James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, White House Down, The Amazing Spider-Man), Mythology Entertainment, and Captivate Entertainment to build a new cinematic universe based on the books written by Robert Ludlum who is best known for his Jason Bourne series.
The first movie will be a movie version of Robert Ludlum’s The Janson Directive, featuring Dwayne Johnson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Janson Director is a spy thriller about a former Navy SEAL and highly sought after corporate security consultant called Paul Janson, who is framed for the murder of a billionaire Nobel Peace Laureate and must uncover the truth or be killed by his former colleagues.
Vanderbilt will also write two more movie scripts based on Ludlum books that will eventually cross over with Dwayne Johnson’s character in future movies. It’s not described whether the existing Bourne movies will be referenced within or factored into the new Robert Ludlum cinematic universe.
Before his death, Robert Ludlum wrote 27 thrillers before his death in 2001. Several of his non-Bourne movies have been turned into movies including The Osterman WEekend and The Holcroft Covenant. The next Bourne film, Jason Bourne, will hit cinemas on July 29th.
