Don Cheadle Has Confirmed That He Is No Longer Under Contract With Marvel Studios.

The first actor to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe was Don Cheadle, who took over for Terrence Howard as Colonel James Rhodes in Iron Man 2 in 2010. Since then, he has reprised his character, better known as “War Machine,” across seven movies and a television series within the Marvel realm.

Cheadle recently sat down with Variety to discuss his future in the MCU and any contractual obligations he might have with the studio. He was open about upcoming projects, stating:

“I’m done with my contracted years in the MCU, so now, it’s just like, if something sounds fun and I’m presented with it, then yeah, let’s go.”

He was interviewed by Variety, where he spoke about the show Secret Invasion. He said, “I’m so glad that somebody got the assignment. Secret is in the title. It’s not ‘Spoiler Invasion,’ it’s ‘Secret Invasion.'” He teases fans that it will not disappoint, calling it “a lot of fun.” Cheadle also confirms that it leads into the events of Armor Wars, stating: “This is a fun one because this sets up what happens in Armor Wars. In the trailer, you see that he’s gonna confront Nick Fury. He and Fury are gonna go at it throughout this show as far as what they need to do, given what’s happened on this planet at this point. It’s kind of a thriller. It’s a different kind of show than you usually see in the MCU, which is great that we continue to change it up and switch it up. It’s a lot of fun.”

Disney+ has recently announced that Secret Wars will be released in early 2023, with the follow-up project, Armor Wars, set to come out in 2024. Output film projects have yet to be determined for Cheadle’s future.
