Disney Announces New ‘Star Wars IX’ Director

Disney and Lucasfilm are always looking for the hottest young directors for their Star Wars movies. And yesterday, the billion dollar production companies announced Colin Trevorrow, the director of ‘Jurassic World’ will direct Star Wars: Episode IX.

Disney made the announcement at D23 Saturday but, the news should come as a surprise. ‘Jurassic World’ was a major hit for Universal when it opened earlier this year. ‘Jurassic World’ broke records for the biggest domestic opening of all time. It was became the fastest movie in history to make $1 billion globally. The Chris-Pratt movie has so far earned $1.6 billion worldwide so far.

Trevorrow doesn’t really have a much of a resume. Prior to the 2012 comedy ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ he only directed a shrot film. He’s already stated that he would not be returning for the next Jurassic World movie, and is currently set to direct the upcoming movie ‘Book of Henry’.

Disney has been keeping an eye out for young talented directors to join the ‘Star Wars’ universie. So far, Disney has picked up J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson and now Colin Trevorrow.

Initially, ‘Fantastic Four’ director, Josh Trank, was to direct a Star Wars movie but, as reports of Trank’s “erratic” behavior, Disney pulled the plug on the deal.

Project Casting previously announced that Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are going to film a Han Solo stand-alone film.
