Orlando authorities are currently searching Disney resort waters to find the toddler who was attacked by an alligator.

Authorities are looking for a child who was dragged into the water by an alligator near Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort a & Spa in Orlando. According to reports, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, Rose Silva, says a 2-year-old was dragged into Seven Seas Lagoon near the resort at about 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

During a press conference, Jerry Demings from the Orange County Sheriff’s office confirmed the toddler is a boy and is on vacation with his family from Nebraska.

His father attempted to save his son from the alligator, but was unsuccessful, according to Demings. The alligator was described as six to seven feet long. He added that about 50 law enforcement professionals are searching for the boy.

After receiving a 911 call, local emergency services responded to the area and began to work with the Orange County Sheriff’s office to find the boy and the alligator, said Demings, who added Disney is working with the Orange County authorities with the investigation.

“As a father and a grandfather,” said Demings, “we’re going to hope for the best in these circumstances, but based upon my 35 years of law enforcement experience, we know we have some challenges ahead of us at this time.”

“Everyone here at the Walt Disney World Resort is devastated by this tragic accident,” said Jacquee Wahler, spokeswoman for Walt Disney World Resort. “Our thoughts are with the family. We are helping the family and doing everything we can to assist law enforcement.”

This news comes after Disney donated $1 million to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida and Disney opens their new resort in China.
