Warner Bros. Developing a Dante’s ‘Inferno’ Movie

Warner Bros. is making a Dante’s ‘Inferno’ movie.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has bought a pitch from Dwain Worrell in hopes to create a franchise based on the medieval series.

The new Warner Bros. movie is based on the 14th century epic poem Divine Comedy written by Dante Alighieri. After Dante’s Inferno there is Purgatorio and Paradiso. The novel is a story of the journey of Dante through Hell, guided by the Roman poet Virgil. In the poem, Hell is described as having nine circles of suffering located within the Earth.

While the specifics of the movie adaptation have not yet been revealed, an attempt to “save” Beatrice, Dante’s love interest is not part of the original poem. In fact, it is Beatrice who saves Dante, appearing in the Earthly paradise at the every end of Purgatorio, taking over for Virgil and serving as Dante’s guide through Paradiso.

There have been several movie adaptations of Inferno including Giuseppe de Liguoro’s 1911 silent film, L’Inferno. However, the Warner Bros. version will be more of a modern version of Hell. But, the movie studio will be competing with Universal Pictures’ v
