Three men saved after being stranded on a deserted island.

The classic Tom Hanks movie Castaway is no longer a work of fiction. According to the U.S. Navy on Facebook, three men spent Monday night swimming to dry land after their 19 foot boat capsized in the Pacific Ocean. they ended up on the remote island Fanadik Island, where they remained on their until Saturday, when the Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy rescued the men, having spotted their large HELP sign made out of palm leaves.

Apparently, once the men heard the sound of a plane the men ran out to the shore and started waving their life jackets. The Coast Guard has more information about the rescue as well as pictures of their HELP sign:

I can’t believe these guys had to swim for nearly two miles in dangerous water in order to survive. At least they didn’t have to spend years talking to a volley ball like Tom Hanks did.
