Marvel’s New Iron Man Is a Black Woman Sparking Controversy

Marvel fans are not too happy with a black woman playing Iron Man.

Iron Woman movie coming soon? Maybe. As part of Marvel Entertainment’s Marvel Now! relaunch this fall, the inventor of the Iron Man armor will be taken by Riri Williams – a teen genius who built her own version of Iron Man suit at MIT.

Williams debuted in Invincible Iron Man No. 7 in March of this year, and will headline a relaunched version of the character later on this year.

The comic book series was created by Brian Michael Bendis who also co-created Miles Morales, the half-black, half-Latino Spider-Man who debuted in 2011.
