“Whatever happens next, it’s not going to go down the way you think it is,” warns Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) during the preview. The preview begins with James McGill’s transformation into Saul Goodman, a crooked criminal defense lawyer, and follows the con man’s chaotic journey ahead of the events of Breaking Bad.

“In my eyes, this is our most ambitious, surprising, and, yes, heartbreaking season,” said co-creator and showrunner Peter Gould in a statement. “Even under incredibly challenging circumstances, the whole Saul team — writers, cast, producers, directors, and crew — have outdone themselves. I couldn’t be more excited to share what we’ve accomplished together.”

Better Call Saul told the story of small-time lawyer James McGill (Odenkirk), six years before becoming Walter White’s morally bankrupt attorney and started going by Saul Goodman. The show chronicles McGill’s transformation into Goodman, a dishonest lawyer who will do anything to make a quick buck.

The series is set and filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and revolves around McGill’s interactions with criminals, drug dealers, and other lowlifes as he tries to make a name for himself.

Better Call Saul has been praised for its writing, acting, cinematography, and direction. It has received numerous awards and nominations, including seven Primetime Emmy Awards and 26 nominations, and two Golden Globe Awards.

The final season of Better Call Saul premieres on April 18 on AMC.
