Ben Affleck revealed how Jennifer Lopez hurt his acting career.
Even though Ben Affleck split with Jennifer Garner a year ago and their divorce will be finalized soon, Affleck reveals that Jennifer Garner helped resurrect his acting career.
In early 2000’s Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s relationship was essentially the modern day version of Jay-Z and Beyonce. The golden couple was everywhere from TV to the tabloids. However, after breaking up with Jennifer Lopez, his acting career took a major hit.
The 43-year-old actor shared his feelings about his estranged wife during an interview on HBO’s Any Given Wednesday With Bill Simmons this week. Ben revealed that his Jennifer Garner helped him get his career back on track by directing films such as The Town and Argo after several bad years following his divorce from Jennifer Lopez. “My wife was really instrumental and helpful in me doing a lot of that work because I was just so focused [on it] and it was harder to balance family and all that,” Ben Affleck said.
Ben Affleck also described the psychological trauma after divorcing Jennifer Lopez, telling Simmons, “If you went by what people said… I wasn’t cool and I wasn’t talented,” Ben recalled. “I was, like, the lowest rung of cool and talented that you could possibly be in the public consciousness at that time. I had broken up with Jennifer Lopez and I had, like, three or four movies in a row that had bombed.”
After he became the butt of everyone’s jokes, Ben Affleck figured he needed to change his acting career by directing more movies. ‘That was where I found myself when I thought, “Hey, I want to take up directing, which is for people that are taken seriously.” That became my mantra – “I’m just going to work harder than everybody else.”‘
Ben Affleck is currently filming reshoots for Prohibition-era crime drama Live By Night in Pasadena, California.
