Erik Davis is one of many critics who have praised the film, calling it “visually breathtaking, visceral, and incredibly engrossing.” Others have called it a “visual masterpiece,” absolutely blown away by the fictitious world Cameron has created. Peri Nemiroff and Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast support Cameron, even in light of recent criticism.

At three hours and ten minutes, the film is one of the longest ever made. However, it has received positive feedback from well-known director Guillermo del Toro. The Oscar winner said the sequel was “a staggering achievement” and added “a chock-full of majestic vistas and emotions at an epic scale. A master at the peak of his power.”

Avatar: The Way of Water will be released in theaters on December 16.
