Ava DuVernay Becomes the First Black Woman To Direct A $100 Million Budget Film

Ava DuVernay is breaking records, walls, and making history in the process.

Deadline reported that DuVernay’s new movie A Wrinkle in Time received a remarkable $100 million budget.

DuVernay’s story is proof that hard work and dedication always pays off. She first started working as a journalist and eventually made her directorial debut in 2010 with I Will Follow a movie with a budget of only $50,000. Four years later, she directed Selma which had a $20 million budget.

Currently, DuVernay is working on the OWN Network series Queen of Sugar, which will debut next month.

A Wrinkle in Time centers around the story of a young girl who goes on an adventure in order to find her missing scientist father. Published in 1963, L’Engle won the coveted Newberry Medal.
