AMC Annual “Bake Off”: Five Shows Fight for a Series Order

AMC is preparing for the 2014 pilot script showcase and this years scripts look promising for the network.

Every spring, AMC holds an annual meeting with writers and producers of scripts that the network believes have the strongest possibility of becoming a pilot.

Deadline describes the showcase as a “bake-off” which “includes a series of presentations, in which the principals of the selected projects lay out for top AMC execs their vision for their show beyond the pilot with the help of visual aids, including demo reels.”

In 2012 three of the six scripts actually went to pilot and then series including Low Winter Sun, Turn, and Divide which is now on the WE tv.

Here are the six pilots fighting for a network premiere:

Raiders

Raiders is a WWII drama about a rogue U.S. Navy commander who leads a warfare unit into the heart of Africa on a mission that will bend the arc of history. The script is written/executive produced by Evan Wright. The production is also executive produced by David Zucker and Ridley Scott.

Ashland

Ashland is a 1950’s a tiny mining town in Kentucky set in the 1950’s and the Evans family has just relocated from California and the mother Del, must hide her family’s secrets and find a way to support her three children at the height of the Red Scare. The show is written and Executive Produced by Allison Anders and Terry Graham.

White City

The drama series follows western diplomats and journalists living in Afghanistan. The series is written by Nick McDonell and John Dempsey and Executive Produced by Tom Freston.

Untitled Dahvi Waller Project

Set against the New York car industry of the 1920s, two brothers fight to keep their family-run company alive with a class-hopping Ziegfeld girl and the daughter of an English competitor blurring the line between love and business. The show is written and executive produced by Dahvi Waller.

The Sparrow

The Sparrow, is based on Mary Doria Russell’s acclaimed sci-fi novel, “The Sparrow”  and tells the story of a Jesuit-led mission to make first contact with an alien race. The script is written and executive produced by Michael Perry.
