Johnny Depp’s Wife Facing 10 Years in Prison for Bringing Dogs to Australia

0

Australia is not playing around-they have officially charged Amber Heard with the illegal importation of Johnny Depp’s dogs, meaning she could, techinically face up to 10 years in prison.

Earlier this year, officials discovered that Johnny Depp, who’s shooting Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’, and Amber Heard had snuck their two Yorkshire terriers into the country without quarantining them. At the time, the government gave the couple the option to remove their animals from the country or Australia will put them to sleep.

They apparently took the dogs home, but Australia is not down with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, via the AP:

Heard was charged this week with two counts of illegally importing Pistol and Boo into Australia and one count of producing a false document, the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions said Thursday.

The importation charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of 102,000 Australian dollars ($75,000). The false document charge, which relates to information on an incoming passenger card, carries a penalty of up to one year in prison and a fine of AU$10,200.

Heard was issued a summons to appear in a Queensland court on Sept. 7. Her lawyers could petition the court to appear on her behalf, but given the seriousness of the charge, it’s likely she’ll need to appear in person, particularly if she is in Australia at that time, said Bill Potts, a criminal defense attorney based in the Queensland capital, Brisbane.

Whoa. Was it worth it for Amber Heard and Johnny Depp to take the dogs to Australia? Probably not.
