Amazon has announced the launch of Amazon Storywriter, a a free screenwriting software for writers to create TV and film screenplays, offering an alternative to costly industry tools.

Screenwriting tools are typically expensive when it comes to software, but Amazon released a free tool called Storywriter that provides a free screenwriting tool that saves directly to the cloud.

Amazon Storywriter automatically formats a screenplay for dialogue, transitions and action descriptions. While the only font is Courier (an industry staple), users can easily export the screenplay in a matter of seconds.

The Amazon app also comes with a Chrome extension that allows you to work on the screenplay while offline.

The Amazon app itself is pretty typical when it comes to screenwriting tools, but the free price tag is great for anyone trying to get into the film industry.

“Amazon is thrilled to support the evolution of our creative community by offering advanced tools like Amazon Storywriter to assist both established and aspiring writers in telling their stories,” said Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios. “Amazon is dedicated to producing high-quality, original films and television series that customers love, and enabling more writers to obtain access to creative resources will ultimately help us discover great new talent.”

But, the best part of Amazon Storywriter is that you can easily submit your script directly to Amazon Studios from the app. But, be aware that there’s a a pretty big “similar content” agreement clause that details exactly what Amazon can take from your script without giving you any credit.
