‘The Little Mermaid’ Tops Memorial Day Weekend Box Office With $118 Million USD

‘The Little Mermaid’ Dominates Memorial Day Weekend Box Office with $118 Million

The live-action adaptation of Disney’s beloved classic, “The Little Mermaid,” made a splash at the Memorial Day weekend box office, raking in an impressive $118 million during its opening.

Halle Bailey’s stellar performance propelled the film to break the record for history’s fifth-highest Memorial Day weekend opening. Of the $118 million total, $96 million was earned during the thrilling three-day weekend. Furthermore, the movie has garnered $68.3 million from 51 international markets, bringing its worldwide box office revenue close to its $250 million production budget.

 

Disney’s head of distribution, Tony Chambers, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It’s a classic. Many of my generation hold ‘Little Mermaid’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ as their favorite animated films. These stories evoke cherished childhood memories, and this movie provides a wonderful opportunity for generations to pass on their love for these timeless tales.”

 

The Memorial Day weekend box office also saw notable performances from other films. “Fast X” secured a solid $28.7 million during its second weekend, while “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3” followed closely with $25.3 million. A24’s heartwarming film “You Hurt My Feelings” earned $1.8 million.
