Russia May Ban ‘Beauty and the Best’ Over a Gay Character

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast possibly one of the about 2017. However, since it was announced that there would be an openly gay character in the movie,  a backlash as quickly has gone viral. In fact, in Alabama drive-in has already canceled plans to screen beauty and the beast over the director’s acknowledgment that the character LeFou is a gay character in the upcoming movie. Now the feature film may be banned in Russia.

According to reports, Russian officials are exploring if the movie violates the countries”Gay propaganda” law. In the 2017 version, Lefou (played by Josh Gad) is attracted to Luke Evans’ Gaston, but it’s more of a romantic approach.

United Russia minister Vitaly Milonov has called upon Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky to investigate Beauty and the Beast over what he’s called a “shameless propaganda of sin.”

“As soon as we get a copy of the film with relevant paperwork for distribution, we will consider it according to the law,” said Medinsky discussing the ban.

Russia may have little time to prohibit the move as Beauty and the Beast is slated to debut in Russia on March 16th.
