Disney is Planning on Making Multiple ‘Star Wars’ Movies and TV Shows

The creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, will be creating a new series of Star Wars movies.

From StarWars.com:

These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.

Rian Johnson has also been recruited to come up with new Star Wars movies, which also have nothing to do with the Skywalker lineage. Besides that, everything is still a secret. But it is safe to assume that Star Wars movies will be more PG-13 than the HBO series.

Also, Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors during an investors call that they are planning on creating multiple Star Wars TV shows for their streaming service.

“We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that. I think you’ll find the level of talent on the television front will be rather significant as well.”
