‘Girlfriends’ Reboot Unlikely, Says Star Tracee Ellis Ross

Date:

Key Takeaways:
– ‘Girlfriends’ star Tracee Ellis Ross has quashed rumors of a possible show reboot
– The Golden Globe winner still maintains close relationships with her former castmates
– Ross cites the cast’s lack of ownership rights to the show as a major obstacle to a potential reboot
– Despite these sad news, fans can still enjoy reruns of the classic show on Netflix and Amazon Prime

Whispers of a ‘Girlfriends’ Reboot put to Rest

Golden Globe winner Tracee Ellis Ross has recently shared her perspective on the speculated ‘Girlfriends’ reboot. In her dialogue with VIBE, she extinguished the hopes of fans eagerly awaiting the reunion of their favorite quartet on screen.

Prior Speculations Quelled

Speculations arose when last month, Persia White who played Lynn in the early 2000s show, suggested a potential revival after her meeting with Kelsey Grammar. However, Ellis Ross, known for her role as Joan, gently implored fans not to get overly optimistic. She relayed, “The cast has always wanted to do it, but I’ll be honest with you, the ship has sailed. I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. I think it would be a miracle.”

Cohesion Among Cast Remains

Despite nipping the reboot rumors in the bud, Ross admitted to maintaining consistent communication with her previous co-stars. She even has a group chat with Persia White, Golden Brooks, and Jill Marie Jones. “We have a thread of me and the girls and we text all the time; we talk about it, but I think we’re all at different places in our lives and our careers now,” Ross confessed.

Obstacles Faced by the Cast

This isn’t the first attempt cast members have made to revive the show. “I think there was a point 10 years ago when they [‘Girlfriends’ cast] came on ‘Blackish,’ and we were all game, but we couldn’t get the powers that be to get on board,” Ross revealed. The main challenge lies in not holding the rights to the show. The ‘Blackish’ star clarified, “We’ve tried numerous times as a cast to make it happen, but unfortunately, we don’t own the rights to the show. We are not the producers.”

Surveying the Aftermath

The show’s abrupt cancellation invoked regret and devastation among the cast, mirroring the heartbreak of fans. However, Ross stated, “we are past being broken-hearted. We’re so happy that the audience still loves the show and still wants it, but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen.” Despite this turn of events, eager fans of the sitcom can avail themselves to trusted reruns on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

While fans digest the disappointing news, remember that the enduring charm of ‘Girlfriends’ continues to linger strongly, even in the absence of a reboot.
