One notable incident occurred in 2015 when author Anthony Horowitz controversially described Elba as "to street" to portray the iconic secret agent.
Initially, Elba felt flattered by the prospect of playing Bond. He remarked, "I was genuinely honored for quite some time by this. I thought, 'This is crazy!' James Bond... We're all actors, and we comprehend the significance of that role. It's one of those highly coveted roles. Being asked to portray James Bond was like reaching the pinnacle. It's something the entire world has a say in."
Elba continued, acknowledging the global support for his potential casting, saying, "It was a huge compliment. Almost every corner of the world was genuinely thrilled with the possibility of my consideration. Those who were displeased made the situation distasteful and unappealing because it became solely about race.
As the conversation around Elba taking on the role of Bond increasingly fixated on race, he gradually lost interest in headlining the 007 franchise. The actor previously voiced his frustration with being labeled a "Black actor." In a February interview with Esquire U.K., Elba admitted that he refrains from using the term as it imposes limitations on his career.
Elba stressed the need for personal growth and overcoming societal preoccupations with race. He stated, "Humans tend to obsess over race, which can hinder people's aspirations and personal development. Racism is a subject worthy of discussion, no doubt. It is a harsh reality. However, from my perspective, its power only extends as far as we allow it."
He further asserted, "I ceased referring to myself as a Black actor when I realized it confined me to a box. We must evolve beyond that. Our skin is merely an external attribute. It's just skin. End of rant."

He said that while he had desired to play James Bond since "the day I went on the internet," he ultimately decided not to pursue the role because it was simply "not a goal for my career.", He added: "I don't think that you know, playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals. It will definitely satisfy the will of a nation." He expanded on his comments and added why he was not compelled to participate.
"I'm not gonna lie, every corner of the world I go, and I'm talking about different cultures, they always go, 'Bond.' And I feel it is beyond me at this junction. It's beyond me.
You know, it's not a question of, should I, do I, will I? It is what the will of the nation dictates sometimes. I'm not that guy, but in everyone's world, I might be. And that, job is done. Because the truth is, you know, a lot of people are really seeing Idris playing Bond as the alternative Bond. And as long as that alternative is existing, that's great for the growth of f**king casting."

Deadline reports Netflix’s Idris Ebla western The Harder They Fall shut down production after an actor tested positive for Coronavirus COVID-19. Production stopped on Thursday, continued into Friday, and it is currently unclear when filming will resume. Production for the Netflix production started about five weeks ago.
For TV shows and movie productions, it is currently not uncommon to encounter COVID-19 cases. COVID-19 cases have forced some productions to stop, while others can continue shooting. For example, Jurassic World: Dominion had to shut down due to positive COVID-19 cases, but due to effective planning and keeping on-set workers separate from other units, a second unit remained at work. 
Idris Elba was one of the first actors to say he got the Coronavirus COVID-19 during the start of the pandemic. The Harder They Fall production was supposed to start back in mid-March but shut down due to safety precautions. 
The Harder They Fall centers around an outlaw who discovers the man who killed his parents has been released from prison. He joins up with others to help him as he seeks revenge. Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, LaKeith Stanfield, and Delroy Lindo star in the movie.
In related news, <a href="https://www.projectcasting.com/blog/news/coronavirus-hollywood-filmmakers-issue-warning-theaters-are-facing-extinction/">several of Hollywood’s biggest filmmakers have signed an open letter warning the US Congress theaters to face extinction. </a>Jordan Peele, Greta Gerwig, Clint Eastwood, Lulu Wang, Martin Scorsese and more have signed a letter asking for additional pandemic relief for the cinemas due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
AMC, the largest cinema chain in the United States said in June it could go out of business after a record $2.4 billion loss in the first quarter of the year.
“Cinemas are an essential industry that represents the best that American talent and creativity have to offer. But now we fear for their future,” the letter began, per <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/top-filmmakers-warn-congress-that-movie-theaters-face-extinction">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.
