I have been in the oilfield for 42 years. As bad as this was losing 11 lives it will not potray the true lives of oil workers and what they do for for a fair living., it will be an anti-oilfield movie for polluiton and damage to the coast. I wonder if they will show the people who lied and collected money from this. No one wanted this to happens believe me. I was affected working there and living in the area. 

I have 40 years &amp; refuse to participate in what will undoubtedly be a movie which will portray oilfield hands as subhuman idiots.

I know were I would have the opening shoot to start the movie!

There is only one spot and it is not offshore it is the only spot on earth that would give the movie the meaning it needs. And if they get in touch with me with a 5 figure amount I will show them that spot !

Well I agree with most of the comments but I was actually on the rig when I lost my 11 brothers that I worked with for ten years that is why I am casting hopefully to put some input to what actually happened on the night the Horizon exploded. I've be in the oilfield for 35 years and yes I'm still working in the oilfield.

You are correct sir. I have been working on these rigs since 1979 and have seen it happen too many times. Common people just have no idea all the safety,drills, and policies we have to go through on a daily basis.This film will be filled with so many non-truths that it will give the oilfield a bad rap.

The hardhat belonging to Jason Anderson washed ashore at Pensacola Beach and recovered by one of my followers as I covered the crisis.
Shelly Anderson Jason's wife was promised to receive Jason's hardhat by BP official but they later claimed to knowing nothing about the recovery not realizing my friend Patricia had actually saved a voice message from a BP exe informing her the hardhat which actually had Anderson on it did in fact belong to Jason Anderson.
I have personally spoken to Shelly Anderson and she very much wants the hardhat.

Isn't that what they are doing by asking for people with real world oil rig experience?

I've been in the oilfield for 13 years. I'm a career safety man and as proud as anyone. But, let's not forget that this is also an opportunity for Hollywood to get it right, not just wrong. People with real experience can and do offer advice on these movies that allow it be realistic. Directors, who want to craft a film that's realistic listen to them.


Example: for 12 years before this I worked as a paramedic; I was impressed when Bringing Out the Dead showed urban EMS for what it really is, the good and the bad. They filmed it during the glory days of William Shatner and Rescue 911. They listened to their NYFD paramedic advisors, did it right, and I'm sure they got flak for bucking that trend. But, they did it.


Let's give these movie people a chance before we started talking about gloom and doom. And besides, the last oil rig movie that Hollywood made was roughnecks that saved the world on Armageddon with Bruce Willis.


Macondo, as we know, was a tragic, yet preventable accident. It's important, as a nation, to learn from our tragedies so we can heal and do better in the future. This movie has a responsibility to record that message. They also have the responsibility to capture the human story that unfolded during that event. Being part of the solution is the road to getting there.

In what universe is Wahlberg a conservative?  He's just a another Hollywood gun-grabber, one who had nasty things to say about Charlton Heston, because he had been president of the NRA.

I work offshore as well. To be fair there are quite a few idiots, and ton of ignorant coonasses. I hope they get it right. Especially the after math and togetherness it brought. Never forget the 11

 I applied and I'm a 10 year derrick hand . but the girl I was talking to couldn't speak English and was asking for one dollar . sounds like a scam to me to get my card info so I hung up asap. But I'd like to do this but don't want to get ripped off . I work to hard for my money.


How can they help those who were laid off if they want local people only? Many good men anf women out of the state lost their jobs with years of experience but they clearly stated for them not to apply.

I have been in the oilfield for 28 yrs. I worked for Sonat Drilling what now is known as Transocean. I worked on Discoverer 7 seas Dynamic Positioning Drillship as a Roughneck in 1988, Then I went to the Discoverer 5-34 and started my Subsea Engineer career since 1997, I worked with a few of the Deepwater Horizonn men, In my past years. Prayers still go out for them and family and all the people that were there on that day.

As a wife of a oil field worker who was laid off I totally agree . Wanting only local people, when as Samatha put it so many men and women out state are clearly qualified who need to work and could do the hours they need. My husband was on the first platform the "Horn Mountain" that was in same field as the "Horizon" for BP. Safety is a HUGE factor I know this from talking on the phone with him every day when he was working in Saudi Arabia he would have was attending Safety meeting every day.  Plus Being a Electrician on the rig he knew that there lives were in his hands if some of the equipment did not work. They are one big family out there.  I hope this film will truly show what these men and women deal with on a day to day bases. It not your average job for the worker or his family, God bless the families of the fallen.

The highly anticipated feature film, 'Deepwater Horizon', is now looking for extras to work on scenes in the next couple of months.

According to <a href="http://www.slashfilm.com/deepwater-horizon-director/" target="_blank">/Film</a>, 'Deepwater Horizon' is based on the New York Times article by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul. The article examines how the explosion on a Gulf of Mexico oil rig in 2010 killed 11 people, injured 17 more, and spilled oil into the gulf for months.
