"X-Men: Days of Future Past" dominates the box-office with an estimated $261 million first weekend earnings.
Comic's has reaped in a huge amount of earnings so far. After the three day weekend the feature film made $171 million internationally and $90 million in the United States.
Last week's No.1 movie, "Godzilla,
" came in a distant second with $30.5 million and the the Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore
comedy did horribly with around $14 million after three days.
Despite making $171 million dollars, "Days of Future Past" cost producers nearly $200 million to produce. But, at this rate, the production will soon receive a high return on investment.
This is the second biggest opening for the X-Men
franchise. "X-Men: The Last Stand"
made #102 million over three days in 2006.
Marketers for the feature film focused on the combined cast of the original "X-Men
" trilogy and the 2011 reboot "X-Men: First Class."
Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence are the biggest names in the movie but it also features James McAvoy
, Michael Fassbender
, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen
and Peter Dinklage.
Critics rated the movie really highly with a 91 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While audiences declared this production a hit giving it an "A" rating on CinemaScore.
