Top Publicity Firms Meet With SAG-AFTRA Ahead of Potential Strike

Date:

Publicity Firms Consult SAG-AFTRA Amid Impending Strike Deadline.

According to Variety, in anticipation of a potential strike, leading publicity firms representing prominent Hollywood actors held a Monday conference call with SAG-AFTRA officials. The call aimed to discuss protocols and optimal strategies for promotional activities if the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers fail to reach an agreement before the looming Wednesday deadline.

The confirmation of the conference call by The Hollywood Reporter sheds light on the intensifying negotiations between the union and studios as they engage in a back-and-forth battle over a new contract. As the summer movie season progresses and the announcement of Emmy nominations approaches on Wednesday, the issue of promotion has become increasingly crucial. While the Cannes Film Festival proceeded without disruption, with writer-directors promoting their studio projects in their directorial capacities, a potential SAG-AFTRA strike would severely impede public relations tours and “For Your Consideration” campaigns.

San Diego Comic-Con, commencing on July 20, will suffer the absence of its typically grand studio promotional panels, as major players such as Marvel, Warner Bros./DC Studios, Netflix, and Universal have decided to skip their regular Hall H presentations. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated summer blockbuster, Barbie, held its premiere on Sunday evening and is slated for an international screening tour. During the film’s premiere at the Shrine Auditorium, director Greta Gerwig drew attention to the absence of her Barbie co-writer and partner, Noah Baumbach, citing his involvement in the ongoing Writers Guild strike. She emphasized, “Nothing in Barbie happened without him, and nothing in Hollywood happens without writers.”
