Taz Skylar Reveals Near-Miss of Challenging Stunt as Sanji in Netflix’s “One Piece” Live-Action

Date:

Taz Skylar, the charismatic actor portraying Vinsmoke Sanji in Netflix’s One Piece live-action series, has received a wash of admiration from anime and One Piece fans alike. Skylar’s approach to the straw-hatted cook character has been praised, especially as he prepares for the series’ highly anticipated second season.

Key Takeaways:

– Actor Taz Skylar, popular for his role as Sanji in One Piece live-action, prepares for season 2.
– Fans cheer for Skylar’s dedication and efforts in honing his character for the popular anime series.
– The actor reveals a challenging stunt involving an airborne kick that almost didn’t make the final cut in season one.
– Skylar’s commitment to his role and his dedication to doing his own stunts have gained him significant appreciation from fans.

Ambitious Preparation by Taz Skylar

The actor has been public about his preparation journey for the upcoming season, sharing regular updates on his Instagram page. His dedication to the role, including performing his physical stunts and training for in-character combat despite little prior experience, has gained him substantial recognition from the fandom.

A Particular Stunt from Season 1 Discussed

Among many stunts, one stands out that Skylar found his most challenging. The creative team behind the One Piece live-action series almost excised this action sequence from season one. Skylar gained insight into his preparation toward this ambitious stunt and how he managed to perform it just as the creators and fans envisioned.

Narrating the Challenge

In an interview with Esquire Middle East, Skylar opened up about this perilous stunt. It demanded him to deliver a mid-air kick to a Fishman character while perfectly sticking the landing. Despite appearing effortless on screen, the actor confessed it was one of his most strenuous undertakings.

Skylar expressed, “We had to coordinate kicking the Fishman mid-air as I jumped over a pool, and land on a small rock. With the actor underwater, timing the jump and his extraction was critical, let alone synchronizing a wire-pull to propel him across the pool. Although an hour and a half might not seem long, it was a race against the clock.”

A Near Miss in One Piece Live Action

While explaining the stunt, Skylar highlighted his concern for its potential removal from the series if he failed to execute it flawlessly. With the production team on a strict timeline, the action sequence risked being cut from the show if they ran out of time.

Skylar reflected, “There was a point where I thought if we didn’t nail this, they’d cut it. It would be as though this stunt never existed. In the last take, we finally got it right. They looked at it, said ‘Cool, we got it! We can keep it!’, and we all started cheering. Isn’t it interesting how half an hour could’ve determined whether it stayed or vanished?”

Fandom’s Appreciation for Skylar’s Grit

This near-miss stunt eventually made its way into the series, leading to substantial praise and admiration for Skylar from the One Piece fan community. The actor’s arduous efforts have not gone unnoticed, and fans eagerly await the second season where they hope to see more of Skylar’s astonishing portrayal as Sanji in action.

Catch One Piece Live-Action on Netflix and stay tuned for the forthcoming adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates in season two.
