Veteran actress Sharon Stone experienced tremendous fear during her monologue on the SNL show following the release of the controversial movie, Basic Instinct. She revealed this during her session on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s ‘Fly on the Wall’ podcast (source: FandomWire).

Stone’s Traumatic Monologue Experience On SNL

In 1992, Stone starred in the thriller Basic Instinct. However, an explicit scene in the movie sparked much controversy among audiences, essentially causing an uproar. Following this, Stone was targeted by protestors during her first and only time hosting Saturday Night Live, shortly after the movie’s release.

“Most of the show, I was blacked out with terror,” the actress stated during the podcast. The terrified actress gave credit to none other than SNL boss Lorne Michaels for saving her during the scary incident. According to Stone, Michaels prevented the protestors from causing harm to her.

“A bunch of people started storming the stage, saying they were going to kill me during the opening monologue,” Stone said. Thanks to Michaels, who confronted the protestors and halted their aggressive advance, Stone was able to carry on with the live broadcast and deliver her monologue, while the police controlled the situation.

How Lorne Michaels Handled the Situation

Michaels’ quick thinking and brave reaction were crucial to the resolution of the situation. Stone shared how Michaels managed to stop the protestors in their tracks, disallowing them from reaching the stage. Despite the crisis at hand, Michaels took control while the security team on-site froze in shock and confusion.

“Lorne started screaming, ‘What are you guys doing, watching the show?’ And Lorne himself started pulling these people back from the stage,” Stone remembers. She goes on to narrate how, even amid such chaos, the show went on. Stone resolutely delivered her live monologue while police restrained and handcuffed protestors at her feet.

Sharon Stone Accuses Basic Instinct Producers

Apart from this incident, Stone highlighted other issues during her time working on Basic Instinct. In her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, she claimed to have been deceived into performing a particular scene and also alleged that male producers of the film constantly pressured her to have intimate on-screen relations with her male co-stars.

The justification given by the producers was to boost on-screen chemistry, something that Stone considered absurd. She candidly commented that actors’ talent should be paramount and the intimate scenes could go to them instead. This revelation might spark further investigation into a film industry that already faces several accusations regarding forced intimacy.

Undoubtedly, Sharon Stone’s experiences, both during her SNL stint and on the set of Basic Instinct, paint a grim picture of the pressures and dangers artists face. These incidents shed light on the adverse conditions that can occur amidst fame and recognition, adding to the conversation about the movie industry’s need for improvement in its standards and work ethics.
