This Popular Haircut is Making Men Go Bald

Date:

If you have a man-bun, you may want to get a haircut unless you want to go bald.

A new hair style trend is making men go bald. If you love wearing man buns, the hairstyle is actually causing hair loss. Before any man bun defends this as hair style propaganda, it’s true. Pulling tightly on the hairline can cause traction alopecia, or gradual hair loss.

“They’re putting traction on the hair follicles that the hair is not really meant to take,” Dermatologist Sabra Sullivan told Mic. The medical condition, which is typically seen in women who wear tight hairstyles, is now becoming more common in men. Sullivan says the trendy haircut are partly the reason.

How to prevent yourself from going bald? “The idea is not to pull so tight,” said Sullivan. “You don’t want to have to go for hair transplants later.”
