People Are Calling Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’ “Racist”

Date:

People are calling Netflix’s Luke Cage racist against white people.

Many people are calling Netflix’s new series Luke Cage a monster hit. However, there are people who are bashing the show and calling it racist.

In case you missed it, Luke Cage hit Netflix on Friday and centers around a Black man who is given super strength and durability by a sabotaged experiment. He ends up a wrongly accused man escapes prison to become a superhero for hire. The TV show is set in New York City’s Harlem, a historically black community, which explains why the show features predominately black and Latino people in the show.

But according to some Twitter users, the show is racist because it lacks “diversity”.

The fact that so many people are calling ‘racist’ seems pretty ironic. Especially, due to the fact that a recent study showed the top 100 grossing films of 2015 featured a non-white character only 26% of the time. In addition, out of those 100 films, there were only 14 that had a person of color as a star or co-star.

Many Twitter users fired back at ‘Luke Cage’ critics.
