Love ‘Game of Thrones’? Here are six things you probably did not know about ‘Game of Thrones’. Especially ‘Game of Thrones’ season 5.

‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 is finally here and people have waited months to see what happens to the people of George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels.

‘Game of Thrones’ has become a monster hit for HBO. The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for its first four seasons, a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series – Drama, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form, and aPeabody Award. Among the ensemble cast, Peter Dinklage has won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance as Tyrion Lannister.

‘Game of Thrones’ is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaves several plot lines with a broad ensemble cast. The first narrative arc follows a civil war among several noble houses for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the rising threat of the impending winter and the legendary creatures and fierce peoples of the North; the third chronicles the attempts of the exiled last scion of the realm’s deposed ruling dynasty to reclaim the throne.

6. Joffrey: The World’s Most Hated Character

Jack Gleeson (Joffrey) received a letter from author George R.R. Martin after the show aired, stating “Congratulations, everyone hates you!”.

4. Too much blood for a bathroom break

Emilia Clarke (the actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen) was doused in so much fake blood during one scene that she got stuck to a toilet seat during a break.

3. Khaleesi became a popular name

In the year 2012, over 160 baby girls in the U.S. were legally named “Khaleesi”, after the character in the show, although it is not the character’s name (Daenerys) but a title.

2. The show probably doesn’t have an ending

Author George R.R. Martin was asked if he had a resolution or ending to the seemingly endless conflict. He jokingly replied that the next book would just be a description of a cloud of dust or snow being driven by the wind across a vast graveyard full of tombstones.

Many of the characters have nicknames, mostly based on specific deed, behavior or physical feature of the person in question. The nicknames can be derogatory (Kingslayer) or for mockery (Brienne the Beauty).
