Facebook Finally Releases New Reaction Emojis

Date:

Here’s Facebook’s new emoting emoji: Love, wow, haha, sad and angry.

Here’s something that you may love; You don’t have to just “like” Facebook posts anymore.

By popular demand, Facebook is going beyond the simple “like” button with a new collection of emotions to showcase your thoughts and feelings.

Understanding that “like” isn’t the right sentiment for every occasion, the billion dollar social network is offering new options. Reactions, five emojis, are rolling out to Facebook’s 1.5 billion users around the world starting Wednesday.

With a simple click of a button, you can choose from new emotions when commenting on a status update. Hold the “like” button on mobile or hover over the like button on desktop and five animated emojis pop up. You can now tap love, haha, wow, sad or angry to express your reactions. Posts in News Feed will now show a tally of the reactions including how many loves, how many wows, or sad emojis – a post gets.

Here’s what Facebook had to say about the release:

We understand that this is a big change, and want to be thoughtful about rolling this out. For more than a year we have been conducting global research including focus groups and surveys to determine what types of reactions people would want to use most. We also looked at how people are already commenting on posts and the top stickers and emoticons as signals for the types of reactions people are already using to determine which reactions to offer.

We have been testing Reactions in a few markets since last year, and have received positive feedback so far. Today, we’re excited to offer it to everyone who uses Facebook around the world. We will continue learning and listening to feedback to make sure we have a set of reactions that will be useful for everyone. We hope you enjoy the new Reactions!

Engagement is pretty high on Facebook and Facebook wants to keep it that way. Nearly 1.6 billion people visited the social network at least once a month in late 2015. And 1.04 billion people visit Facebook everyday.

What do you think? Are you going to be using the new emojis? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below!
