‘Dune: Part Two’ Postponed to 2024 Due to Ongoing Strikes

Date:

Unfortunately, the much-anticipated release of ‘Dune: Part Two’ has been rescheduled to 2024.

The captivating continuation of Paul Atreides’ journey, portrayed by the talented Timothée Chalamet, is now slated for March 15th.

This decision by Warner Bros. follows an exclusive report by Variety last month, revealing the studio’s consideration of a 2024 release for this significant sci-fi masterpiece. The joint efforts of Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Film Group brought forth ‘Dune: Part Two,’ because of mutual agreement on the new launch date.

Concurrently, as part of this shift, ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,’ initially set for release on March 14, will now grace the screens on April 12. This film, another collaboration between Legendary and Warner Bros., is the latest addition to the Monsterverse franchise.

The delay in the ‘Dune’ release is intricately linked to the ongoing strikes led by WGA and SAG-AFTRA. Notably, the SAG-AFTRA strike has restricted actors from engaging in promotional activities for affected films. Consequently, the stellar ensemble cast of ‘Dune’ would have needed help to participate in the promotional circuit for this grand-scale production.

The alteration in release dates is unlikely to impact IMAX substantially, as it boasts a lineup of fall titles, including ‘The Equalizer 3’, ‘Wonka,’ and ‘The Marvels.’ This is, of course, contingent upon the assumption that none of these titles will be rescheduled. Both Warner Bros. and Legendary express confidence that the upcoming spring break and Easter holiday in the following year will provide an optimal platform for the success of both films.

Beyond Chalamet, the cast of ‘Dune: Part Two’ boasts an array of talents such as Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Lea Seydoux, and more.

Variety’s earlier report also hinted at Warner Bros.’ contemplation of potential postponements to 2024 for other films, including ‘The Color Purple’ (initially scheduled for December 25) and ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ (originally setinitiallyber 20). However, the studio has resolved to retain the December release dates for these titles.

Due to the ongoing strikes, Sony has rescheduled several of its films among the significant studios. Last month, the company announced the delay of ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and a sequel to ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ to 2024. Additionally, ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ was removed from the release calendar. Notably, ‘Dune: Part Two’ isn’t the sole film featuring Zendaya that has been postponed; MGM’s ‘Challengers,’ a tennis-centered drama starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor, has also been moved to the following year.
