Anticipation Builds as “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” First Look Images Released

Entertainment Weekly has given fans a thrilling peek into “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the hotly awaited sequel from celebrated director Tim Burton. These first-look images show Michael Keaton reprising his beloved role as the titular “ghost with the most,” while Winona Ryder is back as Lydia Deetz.

The Long Road to Sequel

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” took decades in development before finally seeing the light of day. The sequel started taking shape back in 1990 when Jonathan Gems was roped in to pen a first draft titled “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian.” After several rewrites and turned down offers, Seth Grahame-Smith was hired in 2011 to write the sequel’s new version. Mike Vukadinovich was later brought onboard for script rewrites in 2017.

Penning the Screenplay

The screenplay for the filmed sequel, “Beetlejuice 2,” was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, co-creators and co-showrunners of “Wednesday.” While plot details remain enigmatic, we know that the production, facilitated by Brad Pitt’s Plan B, was shot in London, and later moved to Vermont and Massachusetts.

New Faces Join the Roster

Joining Keaton and Ryder are new faces Jenna Ortega and Justin Theroux in character roles. Monica Bellucci features as Beetlejuice’s wife, and Willem Dafoe takes on the role of a law enforcement officer in the afterlife. Ortega’s character is disclosed as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid. About Theroux’s character, we only know his name, Rory, so far.

As anticipation escalates, theaters are set to be haunted by “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” on September 6. As fans continue to wait for the upcoming trailer, these recently unveiled images are sure to boost their excitement.
