Kristen Stewart: Hollywood is “Sexist” and “Grotesque”

Date:

Kristen Stewart is the latest actress to address the prevalence of sexism in Hollywood.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the actress addressed issues of gender inequality within the industry, saying, “Hollywood is disgustingly sexist. It’s crazy. It’s so offensive it’s crazy.” She noted, “Women inevitably have to work a little bit harder to be heard.”

Stewart added that fame can be “the worst thing in the world.” “Especially if it’s pointless,” she said. “When people say. ‘I want to be famous’ – why? You don’t do anything.'”

Kristen Stewart also discussed sex scenes in Hollywood where she revealed it can get “grotesquely uncomfortable.” “On Twilight we had to do the most epic sex scene of all time. It had to be transcendent and otherworldly, inhuman, better sex than you can possibly ever imagine, and we were like, ‘How do we live up to that?'” she said. “It was agony. Which sucks, because I wanted it to be so good.”

She added that watching other women put themselves on display to audiences can be just as uncomfortable. “I just even question when a fairly established actress finally does a scene on a movie when she shows her boobs and she hasn’t done it up until this moment, and maybe she only did it for the prestigious part and it’s OK for this time because it’s classy, and I’m like, ‘Oh God, thank you for revealing to the world your treasure,'” she joked.

Emma Watson has also rallied for gender equality in recent months as U.N. Women’s global goodwill ambassador. “It is my belief that there is a greater understanding than ever that women need to be equal participants in our homes, in our societies, in our governments and in our work places,” Watson has shared. “They know that the world is being held back in every way, because they are not. Women share this planet 50/50, and they are under-represented, their potential astonishingly untapped.”
