‘Swagger’ Canceled After Two Seasons on Apple TV+

Date:

The television show “Swagger,” aired on Apple TV+ for two seasons, will not return for a third season.

The show, which follows the life of a high school basketball prodigy portrayed by Isaiah Hill, draws inspiration from the experiences of NBA icon Kevin Durant, who also served as an executive producer. This decision was announced following the conclusion of the second season in August.

The show’s creator, Reggie Rock Bythewood, expressed his thoughts on the series’ conclusion via Instagram. He reflected on the achievements of “Swagger,” including its impact on the industry, its unique storytelling, and its novel approach to filming basketball scenes. Bythewood expressed his gratitude to the cast, crew, and executive producers, including Durant, Brian Grazer, and Rich Kleiman, as well as the production companies Imagine Television and CBS Studios. Despite not being renewed for a third season, Bythewood conveyed his satisfaction with the show he created and his appreciation for the support from the fanbase and the industry.

“Swagger” is notable for its innovative portrayal of basketball games, with Bythewood revealing in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that techniques like using a camera operator on Rollerblades were employed to capture the dynamic nature of the sport. The series also delves into the life of Hill’s character, Jace Carson, and the supportive community that surrounds him, highlighting the importance of a supportive network in achieving success.

The cast of “Swagger” includes notable names such as O’Shea Jackson Jr., Shinelle Azoroh, Quvenzhané Wallis, Caleel Harris, Tristan Mack Wilds, Tessa Ferrer, James Bingham, Solomon Irama, Ozie Nzeribe, Jason Rivera, Christina Jackson, Sean Baker, Orlando Jones, and Shannon Brown. Bythewood, along with Durant, Grazer, Kleiman, Joy Kecken, and Francie Calfo, served as executive producers of the series.
