Whoopi Goldberg’s ‘The Unknown: Talent is Colorblind’ to Film in Savannah, Georgia

Date:

‘The Unknown: Talent is Colorblind’ starring Whoopi Goldberg will film in Savannah, Georgia this December through January.

Despite Florida’s attractive beaches and beautiful scenery, Florida struggles to compete with Georgia’s film tax credit that another Florida movie production has moved to Georgia.

According to CBS12.com, the upcoming feature film, The Unknown: Talent is Colorblind, starring Whoopi Goldberg,  made a surprise announcement, that with no Florida State tax incentives for filmmakers, the historic civil rights biopic on Fort Pierce’s art history will not be made in Florida.

The Unknown: Talent is Colorblind centers around the 1950’s and 1960’s when 26 African Americans used art to rise out of extreme poverty but, were still faced with drama, violence and murder.

According to Savannahnow, production will now take place in Savannah, Georgia.

“Savannah is excited at the opportunity to host this incredible story. Savannah’s unique combination of locations, crew and available resources will surely contribute to the success of this project and it in turn will be a great boon for our local economy,” said William P. Hammargren, Film Services Department, City of Savannah.

But, this is not the first time. Earlier this year, Producers won the rights to film Ben Affleck’s new movie in Georgia instead of Florida despite the plot of the movie takes place in Ybor City, Florida.

From CBS12.com:

“Ben Affleck just took Ballers north—and he rebuilt that area to look like Ybor City because the state wouldn’t give him anything. Georgia gave him a $10 million towards a $60 million  budget  and that was just 4 months ago,” Shaw said,” “Savannah is giving me 10%, which starts in January and Georgia gave me 30% of the budget so that’s a big incentive.”
