‘Deadpool’ Banned in China Due to Graphic Violence

Date:

Deadpool was banned in China due to the amount of graphic violence.

According to reports, the Ryan Reynolds superhero movie has been denied permission to screen in the world’s second largest box office.

The upcoming release of Fox’s R-rated “anti-superhero” movie Deadpool is getting placed on the chopping block thanks to China’s censors.

Deadpool, which was produced by 20th Century Fox and based on the Marvel comic book character, has been denied permission to screen in China due to the amount of violence, nudity and graphic language.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, China’s censorship organization often works with Hollywood studios to create special editions of R-rated movies, but Deadpool was not able to do so without causing plot holes.

It is important to note that China does not have a ratings system, so the country’s regulation committee, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), decides whether or not which movies are able to be screened in China.

Movies based on Marvel characters are typically box office hits in China. In fact, Avengers: Age of Ultron earned $240 million last year, meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man grossed $96.4 million and $105.4 million, respectively.

Daedpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary, whoa after being subjected to a rogue experiment leaves him with super powers and an alter ego Deadpool. Directed by Tim Miller and featuring Ryan Reynolds as the anti-hero, hits theaters on February 12th in the U.S.
