Zoolander 2 is Happening! Penelope Cruz Joins the Cast

Following the success of  are now interested in making sequels of over the top comedies. According to reports, Penelope Cruz has reportedly been added to Zoolander 2

Penelope Cruz is signing on to star with Ben Stiller in Zoolander 2, the comedy that puts Stiller back behind the camera again, with a Justin Theroux script for Paramount Pictures. Stiller will reprise his role as empty headed supermodel Derek Zoolander, and there have been rumors that will be back as the sinister Mugatu and as Zoolander's supermodel rival Hansel. [Deadline]

Penelope Cruz seems like she will be a great addition to the cast and crew of Zoolander 2.

Since, 2008 there have been discussions about a Zoolander . In 2009, Ben Stiller said that he was looking at several for the movie. It was rumoured that Iron Man 2 writer Justin Theroux, who also wrote Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller, was going to write and direct the sequel.

It would be another year before another rumor circulated about a Zoolander 2 movie. Owen Wilson stated that a second Zoolander was in development and will most likely have a working title of Twolander. Ben Stiller then revealed plot details about a year later.

It's ten years later and most of it is set in Europe… it's basically Derek and Hansel… though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they're not really relevant anymore. It's a new world for them. Will Ferrell is written into the script and he's expressed interest in doing it. I think Mugatu is an integral part of the Zoolander story, so yes, he features in a big way.” [via]

Most recently, said, “We are actually supposed to do a read-through of a sequel script soon, and Mugatu is a part of it.” Ben Stiller had previously stated that they were taking their time because they wanted to get it right. Stiller was most likely waiting to see if people are still interested in slap-stick comedies and To proved that the world is ready for a Zoolander 2.
