About Nike:

Nike is a company that deals in athletic gear and sport-inspired casual wear. Nike was founded on January 25, 1964, by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, with the slogan ‘Just Do It’. Today it ranks as one of the largest companies dealing in athletic shoes and apparel.

The Company’s original logo was simply the ‘NIKE’ name in all capital letters, with the ‘K’ and ‘I’ assumed to stand for ‘Knight’ and also for symmetry. In 1978 a new logo was released that featured a winged Nike.

Directly after its inception, Nike began to build a list of sponsorships with major universities throughout the country including Ohio State, UCLA, and the University of Oregon. As time went on, Nike’s deals with universities became more lucrative and more sophisticated.

In the 1980s, the first professional athletes were sponsored by Nike. By 1987 fifty percent of NBA basketball players wore Nike shoes. In 1997, a new logo was developed that featured the ‘swoosh’ symbol in white with ‘Nike’ written in red below it. Though the Jordan Brand was initially created in 1984, it did not become its own company until 2003.

Today Nike sells more apparel than any other sports empire. From its original mission of five products, Nike has grown to over 50 different product categories including footwear, clothing, equipment, and accessories. The company employs over 44,000 people worldwide and generates a revenue of almost $19 billion each year.

Nike is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, USA, and has offices across the globe including France, South Africa, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Canada. Innovations that were developed by Nike include an anti-microbial sweat management system, Flyknit, and the Nike Vapor Carbon Fly II golf club.
