Warner Bros. TV Director’s Workshop 2016 is Looking for Aspiring Filmmakers

Date:

Are you an aspiring director? Submissions for Warner Bros. Television’s 2016 Directors’ Workshop are now open.

Launched two years ago, the program helps aspiring and diverse directors break into the film industry by studying the art of primetime television.

The workshop’s mission is to help directors transition into episodic TV, with a specific focus on increasing opportunities for women and ethnic minorities.

The 12-week program is based around a “master class” taught by director and author Bethany Rooney, with current industry professionals visiting as guest speakers. It goes from May to August 2016, and consists of weekly meetings every Saturday on the Warner Bros. Studios lot in Los Angeles, California. Each week aspiring directors will learn a new skill associated with pre-production, shooting and post-production.

There is also some additional components such as a cinematography workshop, acting classes and the chance to shadow directors on an episode of a Warner Bros. television show.

There are tons of working directors who first started their career going through the program including Zetna Fuentes, who went on to director several episodes of Pretty Little Liars and iZombie. Antonio Negret would later direct episodes of Arrow, The Flash and the upcoming DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Applications for the 2016 session run from now through Thursday, February 11, and require a current resume, short composition, letters of recommendation and a link to samples of past work. Click here for more information about the program, eligibility and the submission process.
