Vlogging – 5 Things Everyone Needs Before Starting a Vlog

Here’s an easy guide to starting your own vlogging channel

Vloggers are now making millions of dollars a year with reports suggesting that YouTube stars are more popular than A-list celebrities.

Which illustrates how the entertainment industry is drastically changing. In order to keep up with the changing landscape, here is a guide to starting your own Vlog. I will go into the 4 elements to a basic vlog.

Easy Guide to Starting Your Own Vlog. (We promise it’s easy.)

The Camera

I will start off with the camera. Smartphones are a good place to start your vlogging channel. Most smartphones have a great camera for capturing video, and they also come with a pretty good mic for recording sound. However, if you are looking to become more professional, than I highly suggest investing in a higher quality camera. I would suggest using Canon Powershot SX 40, or any DSLR camera with wide-angle capability, front facing display, flash, and a quality mic. This will make your videos look professional which is key if you are interested in gaining subscribers.

Here are a list of DSLR cameras that can help improve your Vlogging channel

Microphones

In the film industry, a movie is only as good as the audio quality. You may have one of the best vlogs in the world but, if no one can understand what you’re saying then, it is going to be pointless. So, you will want to invest in a good external microphone.

One popular option that many professionals uses is a shotgun microphone. This will allow you to capture high quality sound for your vlog. Another cheaper option is purchasing a lavalier mic for recording audio. You typically see these types of microphones in interviews annd all you have to do is attach the microphone to your clothing before filming.

However, some digital cameras don’t have a mic input. Therefore, you may have to purchase a ZOOM H1 external and sync the audio in post-production.

Lighting

Lighting is pretty important. But, you can get the best lighting by shooting in the sunlight. So setting up your camera in front of an open window during the morning or afternoon will provide you enough light in order to film your scenes. If that doesn’t work. Bring a lamp close by to provide additional.

There are additional options such as a lighting set ups that you can easily purchase on Amazon for less $100 bucks.

Post Production
When it comes to editing your production, basically any editing software will work. If you own a Mac, iMovie comes pre-equipped on most new computers, if not you can easily download the software. For PC Users, Window Movie Maker is pre-installed or downloadable for free.

There are many consumer-level editing programs but, unless you are making independent movie, then you can easily get by with free software.

It also may be a good idea to buy additioanl storage to save your videos quickly and easily.

Overall

Ultimately, vlogging is more about what you say and not the equipment you use to say it. With Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, and Instagram, videos can easily go viral in a matter of a few hours. Use your creativity and talent to create great and amazing vlogs. Remember, Rome was not built in a day and your vlogging career will take time as well. So stay patient and follow our guides for the latest tips on building your Vlogging channel.
