Production for Independence Day 2 is ramping up production. That means producers, studio executives and casting directors are now casting for the upcoming Independence Day sequel.

The first ‘Independence Day’ movie featured Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Judd Hirsch, Margaret Colin, Randy Quaid, Robert Loggia, James Rebhorn, Vivica A. Fox, and Harry Connick, Jr.The film focused on a disparate group of people who converge in the Nevada desert in the aftermath of a destructive alien attack and, along with the rest of the human population, participate in a last-chance counterattack on July 4, the same date as the Independence Day holiday in the United States. Independence Day was the highest-grossing film of 1996. In the United States, Independence Day earned $104.3 million in its first full week, including $96.1 million during its five-day holiday opening, and $50.2 million during its opening weekend. All three figures broke records set by Jurassic Park three years earlier.

It has been over a decade since Independence Day has hit theaters. The possibility of a sequel had long been discussed. In October 2011, discussions for Will Smith returning to the series due to Fox’s refusal to provide Will Smith the $50 million he demanded for two sequels.

According to reports, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, and Jeff Goldbum will star in the upcoming feature film.

Due to the popularity of Independence Day, producers have kept a tight lid on extra casting call opportunity as well as speaking role opportunities. However, according to IMDB, the principal casting director for Independence Day 2 is John Papsidera. John Papsidera has worked several critically acclaimed movies including ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Ben Hur,’ and Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass’
