Is Tinder Unsafe? Rosie O’Donnell’s Teen Daughter Found in 25 Year Old’s Attic

Date:

Is Tinder unsafe? Rosie O’Donnell’s teen daughter found in the home of a 25-year-old former heroin addict.

Tinder is a location-based social discovery application that facilitates communication between mutually interested users. The dating app allows users to chat with their matches.

Tinder launched in 2012, and by 2014 it was registering about one billion “swipes” per day. In fact, Tinder was among the first “swiping apps”, where the user uses a swiping motion to choose between the photos of other users: swiping right for potentially good matches and swiping left on a photo to move to the next one.

According to police, Rosie O’Donnell’s missing 17-year-old daughter, Chelsea, was finally found on Tuesday at the New Jersey home of 25-year-old Steve Sheerer, a convicted criminal she met on Tinder.

According to reports, Sheerer and Chelsea met through the dating app, but added, “I wouldn’t say he was a boyfriend, more of an acquaintance.”

On Wednesday, Rosie O’Donnell began tweeting about Sheerer’s history of criminal charges, which step from a traffic stop following a two-month narcotics investigation in 2012. ET reports that Sheerer was later convicted of child endangerment and put on probation for heroin possession.

According to People, police say Sheerer intially denied Chelsea was in his home, but the missing teen was found later hiding in his attic:

A spokesman for the Ocean County Police Department tells PEOPLE the precinct received a call around 6 p.m. Tuesday night and triangulated the location of Chelsea’s cell phone to the house of Steven Sheerer, whom O’Donnell would name Wednesday on social media.

Upon talking to Sheerer, the officer “knew something was up. He could tell something was off with Sheerer. His behavioral cues were off. He could tell he was hiding something and was nervous,” police tell PEOPLE.

When the officer entered the house and his search reached the attic, he found Chelsea: “She was hiding up there,” confirms the OCPD spokesman.

“She cooperated very well,” a police spokesperson told the magazine. “She came down and we brought her to the police station. Our role is making sure she’s happy, health and safe.”
