This Story of Robin Williams’ Kindheartedness is Truly Insipring

Robin Williams used his celebrity fame to help homeless people land a job.

After Robin Williams passed away in August the world mourned the loss of a truly comedic actor and great person. In the days after, we heard hundreds of stories about ways that Williams had moved his fans and helped his friends and family, and today I heard one more that was truly inspiring.

Though this is definitely not a new story, it was something that was truly uplifting.

Brian Lord, a writer over at brianlord.org, wrote about his experiences over the years and when he almost booked Robin Williams for an event. Even though, he didn’t end up working with Robin Williams, he came close enough that Williams’ office sent over his rider.

A rider is a set of requests or demands that a performer makes as criteria for their performance. Often times celebrities ask for a particular amount of food, drinks, or transportation.

When Brian Lord received Williams’ rider, he was surprised to see what it contained. The rider required that he had for every event or film that he did, the company hiring him also had to hire a certain number of homeless people and given them to work.

This request was in addition to the many other charities he supported outside of his film career. This shows what a great guy Robin Williams was, he made sure that he used his popularity and celebrity fame in a compassionate way. I can only imagine how many lives were touched and changed by giving some of the homeless people a job.
