IMG Models opens plus-size men’s modeling division called “Brawn”
One of the biggest talent agencies in the modeling agencies is now accepting plus-size men, which is a huge move for size diversity in the world of male modeling.
Who ever said dad-bod’s are not in style? One of fashion’s biggst modeling agencies, IMG Models, has opened a “plus-size” division entitled “Brawn”.
Currently, the “Brawn” division has only one model – it’s Zacho Miko. Miko became one of the industry’s biggest models after modeling for Target’s “Big and Tall” range. Although he was one of many male models cast, Miko was the only man that actually fit the range’s actual description. Standing at over six-foot tall with a 40-inch waist, he represents a group of men that have long been excluded from the high-fashion industry.
Despite reports estimating that the national average waist size for men is 35 inches, many major fashion labels don’t feature larger sizes.
IMG Models’ president Ivan Bart explained his intentions to starting a new division. size diversity is something thats relevant and continues to be on everybodys mind. We have to extend the conversation for men. Bart later pointed out that he wanted the average guy to be able to look at Miko and believe that they, too, could make it as a model.
However, branding is a major part of IMG’s vision trying to stay clear of the plus-size label. Brawn has a body positive message. Brawn is physical strength. Regardless of its title, the new division is showing a new level of body-acceptance in the modeling industry.
